Step 3: Customize your design

Instructions: You can personalize your design and make it just the way you want it. Use the design tools on the left to add text, images, shapes and more. To remove items, just click to highlight (dotted line becomes solid), then hit “Delete.”

Step 4: Preview & print (image will appear backwards)

With Avery Design & Print Online, it should automatically flip your image so it appears backwards. Or, you can select “mirror image” from your inkjet printer settings.

Step 5: Cut out design

Instructions: Cut out the design from the transfer paper, keeping a narrow margin around the design. Edges should be rounded to avoid lifting during ironing or washing.

Step 6: Prepare to iron

Instructions: Find a flat surface that is not heat-sensitive and place a cotton or poly-blend pillowcase on top. (We recommend not using an ironing board, as they absorb too much of the heat.)

Empty the water out of the iron and turn it on. Set it at the hottest cotton temperature, without the steam setting. Preheat iron for 5 minutes.

When the iron has been properly heated, iron out the pillowcase to remove wrinkles and moisture.

Step 7: Firmly iron on the transfer

Instructions: Place your garment on top of the pillowcase. Then place the transfer with the printed side down onto the area you would like it to appear on the garment.

Iron the transfer over the garment with firm downward pressure. Use slow, continuous passes across the transfer, from left to right and from top to bottom.

For a full page transfer, iron for 3 minutes.
For a ½ page transfer, iron 90 seconds.
For a ¼ page transfer, iron for 45 seconds.

After ironing, remove garment from heating area, and let it cool for at least 2 minutes. Turn off the iron.

Step 8: Remove the transfer paper

Instructions: After your garment has cooled, begin peeling the upper backing from a corner of the transfer. Peel smoothly and slowly, so the backing doesn’t tear.

If image begins to lift as you peel, replace the backing and re-iron.

Step 9: Care of your iron-on transfer

Instructions: Wash the garment inside-out on a cold setting before wearing.
