Whether you are a winemaker or need to personalize wine bottles for a large-scale event, here are some things to keep in mind when labelling sparkling juice bottles and wine bottles.
Studies have shown that visual clues have a considerable impact on how people select a bottle of wine (connoisseurs not included, of course). For the average shopper, the look and feel of a good wine label can play a significant role in leading them to their selection from rows and rows of often similar-looking bottles.
Bottle or Can Size
Wine bottles come in a variety of shapes and sizes, which means precise measurements are key to ensuring a proper fit. Once you’ve determined the right size, test your design with a blank label in the same size as the labels you plan to create.
When test fitting labels to bottles, also remember that bottle labels lay best on the smooth, cylindrical section below the bottle’s shoulder, as most labels can’t adhere properly to tapered surfaces. These tips also apply to canned beverage?
Label Shape
Label shape is also an important element of your wine label design. The most popular shape has historically been a rectangle, and with good reason. A rectangle label fits most bottles well and wraps beautifully around a bottle’s curves. It can also make it easy to spread your label information out in a way that does not look overly crowded.
However, while the rectangle may be the most popular, that doesn’t mean that other shapes are not equally attractive. For example, arched wine bottle labels are also an excellent choice. This shape offers a classic look and feel that steps away from the usual rectangle, while not appearing too out of the box.
Choose the Right Label Material
A wine label’s material is not only used to anchor the label design, but contributes to that label’s overall performance. This means support for the label information and images, label strength under different temperatures and levels of moisture, as well as sticking power.
Here are three materials that are an ideal choice for creating wine labels:
