Make a Personalized Tic Tac Toe Board

Add fun to your holiday decorating with an easy-to-craft, DIY, wood tic tac toe board. Make this painting-optional craft with Avery Clear Labels, Avery Vinyl Labels or Avery Printable Fabric, as well as items found at your local dollar store or craft store.

Here Is What You’ll Need

• 10 Wood Blocks ( We used 1 ½ inch blocks)
• 1 Wooden Craft Frame (large enough to accommodate a grid of nine blocks)
• Avery Rectangle Clear Labels
• Avery Clear Square Labels, Avery Printable Fabric or Avery White Vinyl Film Labels
• (Optional) Ribbon, paint, and other embellishments

Prepare the Frame and Blocks

Begin by flipping your wood frame over to the back. Next, remove any dust or debris from the surface with a cloth or paper towel. If you notice any splinters, you can sand them with a piece of sandpaper. If you do sand, be sure to remove any additional dust or debris that may result.

Once your frame is clean and clear of splinters, repeat the same process with your blocks. Remove any pricing labels and debris. Sand if needed.

OPTIONAL: If you choose to paint your frame or blocks, this is the time to do so. Once your pieces have had ample time to dry you can move on to the next steps.

Create the Grid

Create your tic tac toe board grid using 1 full sheet clear label (Avery 7665).

First, head to Avery Design & Print Online and enter template number 7665 to design the grid for your tic tac toe board. You can choose to make a simple black grid, change the colour or add fun details. It’s really just as easy as creating four lines on a blank template.

Once you have finished designing your grid, print and cut a square (with the liner still attached) to fit the inside of your frame. No need to cut out the individual lines, since you’re printing on clear. Next remove your liner and apply the clear grid to the inside of the frame.

Label the Blocks

There are three ways to label your blocks for results that look great, stand up to use, and are easy to apply.

Avery Clear Labels – An excellent choice for a clean, minimalist, long-lasting look.

Avery White Vinyl Film –Choose this option to make your design pop against the white background. These labels are durable, but can be removed without leaving residue- if you want to change the design.

Printable Fabric – Printable fabric sheets add a soft, touchable quality to wood projects, like the blocks in your tic tac toe board. They can be iron onto wood for lasting results.

A Double Delight

You can create two times the fun by applying standard XO labels to one side, then flipping them to add a festive look to the back.
