Does it matter what direction the labels come off of the roll?

The way the labels come off the roll is called the unwind direction. If the labels are applied by hand, the unwind direction is not critical. If the labels are machine applied or dispensed, then it is very important that you have the proper unwind direction for your machine or dispenser in order to apply the labels correctly on your container or packaging. Most label application machines have only one direction that a product can be moved across the label applicator. So, it's important that you verify what unwind direction you need. You will most likely need to verify the unwind direction by consulting your machine's manual, the company applying the labels for you, or you may have to contact the machine manufacturer. We cannot tell you which roll direction is right for you because we do not manufacture labeling applicators. If you do need a certain roll unwind direction, please make sure you know how your label orientation will be impacted by the size label you select. For instance a 2" x 4" roll label is not the same as a 4" x 2” label. When we send you your proof if we think the size label you chose is incompatible with the roll direction we will let you know if we have a better size in stock.
