When we live and work in Canada, we are part of a Canadian-based business, and therefore recognize that operating in a country known for its vast natural resources, environmental stewardship, and commitment to sustainability carries both an opportunity and a responsibility.
Canada's abundance of forests, freshwater, and renewable energy resources highlights the importance of protecting these assets for future generations while supporting long-term economic growth.
As consumers, employees, customers, and business partners increasingly expect organizations to demonstrate environmental responsibility, sustainable business practices have become essential to maintaining trust and remaining competitive.
Embracing sustainability today helps ensure that we are meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to thrive, aligning our business with both Canadian values and the evolving expectations of the marketplace.
At Avery Products Canada, we believe that small actions can create meaningful impact. Our approach to sustainability focuses on creating high-quality products that help our customers reduce their environmental footprint—while continuously improving our own operations and supply chain.
We focus on three key areas to drive sustainability across our business:
We design our products with sustainability in mind, helping customers make more environmentally conscious choices without sacrificing quality or performance.
We are committed to improving how our products are made and delivered.
While we endeavour to make great choices when it comes to the materials we use for our products, there is more to being environmentally responsible than the packaging and content of the products we produce & sell.
The way in which we run our facility is just as important, along with our own recycling and waste management programs.
Our partnerships extend beyond those affiliated with our products and packaging.
We consider our end-users to be our partners, and if we can provide information, training and insights that allow them to make sustainable purchasing decisions, that helps too!
Understanding our current situation and working to improve all aspects of sustainability is important to us.
We aspire to be a responsible environmental steward in everything we do.
We continue to work to increase our recycled content, while reducing packaging waste in our products. We source locally, where possible, for materials, packaging & other supplies.
We have worked to combine many of our Laser only and Ink-jet only products into Dual tech (printable by either printer) so that we can have longer production runs with fewer changeovers, which uses less power and reduces scrap.
Our facility has LED lighting in our offices, Distribution Centre and Manufacturing floor. In our Distribution Centre, the lighting is motion-sensing.
LED lighting uses up to 75% less energy than traditional lighting.
Motion-sensing lights in the Distribution Centre ensure energy is only used when spaces are occupied, eliminating waste from idle lighting
We are proud to use LED air-cured inks in our packaged Labels production.
LED air-cured inks typically:
At our Whitby site, we recycle our corrugate, plastics, raw material label cores as well as other usual blue box items.
We use recycled pallets and even sell any damaged pallets back to a local pallet refurbishing company.
Through these initiatives, we are helping:
We believe sustainability is a shared responsibility. We support our customers and partners in making more sustainable choices by providing practical solutions and guidance.
Avery Products Canada is proud to share that we are Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified.
We have more than 340+ FSC-certified products in our assortment.
The Forest Stewardship Council®
(FSC®) is a global, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of responsible forest management worldwide. FSC defines standards based on agreed principles for responsible forest stewardship that are supported by environmental, social, and economic stakeholders. To learn more, visit www.fsc.org
When it comes to your choice of Label suppliers, choosing from our 340+ FSC-certified products is a great way to show your employees, customers or business partners that sustainability is important to you.
Opting for these products means promoting fair labour practices in forestry, maintaining healthy ecosystems for wildlife, and protecting water quality.
It’s a small change that delivers a big benefit—helping reduce your event’s footprint while advancing your sustainability commitments.
We also have products that are certified by the Sustainabile Forestry Initiative. SFI is an independent, non-profit organization focused on advancing sustainability.
We prioritize diverting obsolete inventory from landfill by discounting or donating it whenever possible—extending product life, reducing waste, and supporting our communities.
If we are unable to donate product (if it is past it’s usable shelf life, as could be the case with a self-adhesive product), we will do our best to divert as much of the product as possible from ending up in landfill. Sometimes that means we are taking apart cases, or even packages of product to ensure the corrugate and packaging is re-used or recycled as appropriate, sending as little to the waste bin as possible.
Because we share a portion of our facility with Checkpoint Systems Canada (the division of CCL Industries that focuses on RF and RFID solutions for loss prevention and inventory management at Retail), we are able to work with them to recycle metals and batteries too.
Avery Products Canada participates in Circular Materials Canada as a responsible producer of products that may find their way to Canada’s recycling bins.
This is what is known as their Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) Program, which includes standards, regulations and a commitment to continuous improvement, all of which align to our goals and plans.
Consumers can use our Material Selector to help them make sustainable choices and compare materials.
Removable labels are ideal wherever substrates are reused, contents change, or clean removal preserves functionality, appearance, and lifecycle value.
These are some of the primary examples of where a Removable Label serves as a great option:
Removable labels are most impactful when they:
