Setting the Stage for a Memorable Proposal

Use Avery Business Cards to Create a Personalized Memory Game Deck AND turn a fun game night into an unforgettable proposal!

proposal

These business cards are printable on both sides, so create an attractive pattern that serves as the backside of all cards. Then on the playable side, feature pairs of photos from your personal collection. These can be photos of things like a beach vacation, photos of the two of you together, and other sentimental images.

proposal

IMPORTANT: Create one card WITHOUT a match. This card should feature a picture of your face. Create another card that says: “Personalized Memory Game” (this will be your spoiler card). Then, create a third card with the words “Will You Marry Me” or "Marry Me" on the face side.

Play the Game

Plan a game night. If this is a regular part of your lifestyle, then your intended shouldn’t suspect anything. To quell any suspicion, play another game first and pull the memory game out afterward.

A Refresher on Playing Memory: The game is simple –you shuffle a deck of card pairs and deal them out face-down. This means that the picture side is hidden and the patterned backs are visible. Then you take turns flipping over two cards per play, with the goal of making matches. When a match is made, that player takes both cards and adds them to their pile. If no match is made, the cards are flipped back over in their spot.

Spoil the Match: Set up the impending proposal

  • Place the “Will You Marry Me” card in your pocket before the evening begins
  • Shuffle the remaining cards, including the picture of your face alone and the spoiler card
  • Deal the cards to begin the game (except for the Will You Marry Me card), and play.
  • When you get down to the final non-matching cards, make a point of saying that the “Personalized Memory Game” card isn’t supposed to be there (say that it’s part of the template example or something along those lines) and that you must have dropped the match to your face card.

Make a point of looking under the table and all around for the “dropped card”. When your intended isn’t looking, state that you’ve found the missing card and grab the “Will You Marry Me” card that you’ve hidden in your pocket.

Pop the Question

Place the card face side down beside your face card and wait for your significant other to flip it over. After that, the rest is up to you!
